About

I own two Lenovo T60. Both ran with an outdated debian installation. In August 2023 I wanted to upgrade. But which distro should I choose?

Choosing the distro

That's hard at first, there a plenty of lightweight Linux-distros around. But none publish i386-BIOS-type ISOs anymore.

Nevertheless I tried two of them:

  • Bodghi Linux 3.1.0 Legacy: Fast, grafix issues, no Nextcloud-client package, outdated system
  • Lubuntu 18.0.4: Fast, great UI, no Nextcloud-client package, outdated system

So, that was a waste of time.

At the end I used Debian 12 (Bookworm) with LXQt. It's in my opinion the only distro that is stable, runs on many platforms and has a comprehensive package repository.
